ich finde es halt wirklich sehr schade, dass jedes jahr im prinzip diesselben serien gewinnen (the sopranos).

Kaum haben wir die Emmys mehr schlecht als recht hinter uns gebracht, da gibt es auch schon die ersten Oscar-News! Es ist zwar noch ein halbes Jahr hin ... aber vielleicht auch weniger. Die Veranstalter überlegen nämlich, die Show anstatt Ende März schon am 29. Februar steigen zu lassen!
Und der Host steht fest: nach drei Jahren ist es wieder Billy Crystal

Billy is back!

After a three-year hiatus from hosting the Oscars, Billy Crystal is ready to resume emcee chores for the 76th Annual Academy Awards in February.

Crystal had bowed out in recent years, even suggesting that his days manning the Oscar microphone were done. With Crystal sidelined, Whoopi Goldberg and Steve Martin tried to hold down the fort--but ratings for the Oscarcast have been slipping, sending organizers once again after their go-to guy.

On Wednesday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the City Slicker would take the reins for his eighth hosting go-round.

"I can't tell you how happy I am that Billy will be hosting this show," said Joe Roth, producer of this year's show. "He was my first and only choice."

Said Crystal: "When Joe called, I didn't hesitate. He has such a passion for the show I felt I could have a great time doing it again.

"It was either this or run for governor."

Over the past decade, Crystal has become synonymous with Oscar festivities with his good-natured barbs at the movie biz, often hilarious sight gags (like the time he came out on stage on a horse to promote City Slickers or when he was carted out in a Hannibal Lecter mask and straight jacket), and mahvelous movie montages in which he has starring roles in all the nominated films.

Crystal, who last hosted in 2000, has won four Emmys for writing and hosting the Academy Awards. For those keeping score at home, Crystal is second only to the late Bob Hope, who had a whopping 18 appearances as an Oscar host or cohost.

This time out, Crystal will be teaming with old pal Roth, who's taking over producing chores from Gil Cates (the Oscar vet decided to take a breather this year). Roth directed Crystal in the 2001 romantic comedy America's Sweethearts, and was more than complimentary toward the comedian.

"Billy's personality and quick wit are uniquely suited to this 900 pound gorilla of live shows," Roth said. "He's proved he can tame it with style and flair. To me, this was the most important element of the show--the rest of the way suddenly feels very comfortable."

Unlike previous Oscarcasts, which have traditionally taken place on the last Sunday in March, the 2004 edition has been moved up to February 29 as part of a two-year experiment by the Academy and ABC to boost ratings and attempt to tone down the fiercely competitive Oscar campaigns that has stirred controversy in recent years.

Nominations, usually announced around Valentine's Day, will be unveiled January 27. Once again the show will air live from the Kodak Theater in Hollywood.

The Oscar move has created a domino effect with other major kudocasts.

The 2004 Grammys Awards is officially moving from New York City--where it was held last year to low ratings--back to Los Angeles. The Grammy folks have pushed up the date to February 8 instead of the usual late February date to avoid a clash with the Oscars.

And the organizers for this year's upcoming American Music Awards, which just last week announced its nominations, have decided to shift their black-tie bash from early January to November 16 so it doesn't get lost in the award show shuffle.

Meanwhile, the Golden Globes (January 25), British Academy Awards (February 15) and the Screen Actors Guild Awards (February 22) have also shuffled their calendars.

Ich find's klasse, dass Billy Crystal wieder moderiert!
Ich meine, Steve Martin und Woopi Goldberg waren auch ganz gut, aber Crystal ist einfach der beste.

Vielleicht sollten wir diesen Thread einfach für 2004 benutzen... Jedenfalls wäre es wohl zu früh jetzt einen neuen aufzumachen.

Nee, wenn dann hätte ich auch nur dafür gestimmt, einen neuen Thread zu eröffnen, wenn die News und Nominierungen überhand nehmen ... aber von mir aus kann's auch dieser hier bleiben. Traditionreich!

@Spikes_Luv: So wie ich das verstanden habe, wurde bei uns nur entschieden, (u.a.?) diesen Film als deutschen Kandidaten ins Rennen zu schicken ... ob er letztendlich auch wirklich unter den 4-5 Nominierten sein wird, liegt dann ja an den Amerikanern.

Ich weiß eh nicht, ob man den Film im Ausland so verstehen kann, wie es die Menschen hier tun. Na ja, ich kann eh nicht mitreden - fand ihn nicht ganz soo grandios wie alle anderen, aber sicher nicht schlecht.

Wenn die Awards einen Monat früher ausgestrahlt werden würden, hätte ich keinerlei Probleme damit. Weniger Wartezeit Aber ich schätze, dass das für die Filmschaffenden schwierig werden könnte. Da gibt es doch Fristen für eingereichtes Material, Kinostarts etc. Wie der Artikel aber andeutet, schaffen es andere Verleihungen allerdings auch ...

Ich habe gelesen, dass viele Filme rechtzeitig für die Oscars auf 1-2 Leinwänden laufen (jedenfalls nur auf einzelne Städte begrenzt) und später dann überall zum normalen Starttermin. Mit dem Trick sichern sie sich eine eventuelle Nominierung. Da kann man mal wieder sehen, wie wichtig die Awards sind.

Besser spät als nie ... der Kurzfilm ist mir erst kürzlich in die Hände gefallen. Ich bin für Animiertes ja immer zu haben - gerade wenn Anspielungen oder Persiflagen mit eingebaut sind. Finde ihn deshalb auch wirklich empfehlenswert und lustig.

Ich habe den Kurzfilm schon vor einiger Zeit gesehen, da der Film mit auf der MIB 2 DVD ist. Ich fand den Film auch total süß. Ich habe gehört, dass es jetzt einen abendfüllenden Film mit den Chubchubs geben soll.

Beverly Hills, CA — Eleven films will compete for the Best Animated Feature Film Oscar in the 2003 Academy Awards® competition.

The Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has voted to activate the category for the 76th Academy Awards.

The 11 films were accepted as eligible to compete by the executive committee of the Short Films and Feature Animation branch of the Academy, which recommended to the board of governors that the Award be given for this year.

The films are:

"Brother Bear"
"Finding Nemo"
"Jester Till (Till Eulenspiegel)"
"The Jungle Book 2"
"Looney Tunes: Back in Action"
"Millenium Actress"
"Piglet's Big Movie"
"Pokèmon Heroes"
"Rugrats Go Wild!"

"The Triplets of Belleville"

Under the rules for this category, a maximum of three films can be nominated in a year in which the field of eligible entries numbers less than sixteen.

Films submitted in the Best Animated Feature category also may qualify for Academy Awards in other areas, including Best Picture, provided they meet the rules criteria governing those categories.

The eligibility of three of the films, "Jester Till (Till Eulenspiegel)," "Tokyo Godfathers" and "The Triplets of Belleville," is subject to their opening in Los Angeles prior to December 31. "The Triplets of Belleville" is scheduled to open November 21 and "Jester Till (Till Eulenspiegel)" and "Tokyo Godfathers" on December 5.

The 76th Academy Award nominations will be announced at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater on Tuesday, January 27, 2004.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2003 will be presented on Sunday, February 29, 2004, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland® and televised live by the ABC Television Network at 5 p.m. PST, beginning with a half-hour arrival segment.
