Pregnant Zeta-Jones Set to Perform at Oscars
Heavily-pregnant Chicago star Catherine Zeta-Jones will not only attend the Oscars this month - she also has plans to get up on the stage and perform. The Welsh beauty, who received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her role as murderess Velma Kelly in the hit musical, will be a mere four weeks away from giving birth when the ceremony takes place. And Zeta-Jones, wife of actor Michael Douglas, plans to uphold the Academy Award tradition of performers singing their nominated songs when she attends. The 33-year-old screen star and fellow nominee Renee Zellweger are slated to perform "I Move On" from Chicago - but the show's producers are still trying to work out a way for her to sing. Zeta-Jones says, "It's going to be hard given my physical condition."
Das erinnert mich an das "American Beauty"-Jahr, als Annette Bening so hochschwanger war und man spekulierte, was passieren würde, wenn es während der Show käme ... inklusive Witzen des Showmasters.
Eminem Turns Down Oscar Performance
8 Mile Oscar nominee Eminem is boycotting the star-studded Academy Awards ceremony on March 23. The rapper-turned-actor is competing in the Best Original Song category with his smash hit "Lose Yourself" - alongside U2 and Paul Simon. Oscar organizers had been worried about how to handle a live performance by the bad boy rapper because the track includes some strong language. Producer Gil Cates had already vowed to make the star keep it clean, saying, "The Academy Awards show is a show for the family. Obviously we would not knowingly have anything on the show which would be offensive." But Interscope Records has revealed the star is taking a break from showbiz and will stay away from the bash at Hollywood's Kodak Theater.
Klingt so, als hätten die Veranstalter es darauf angelegt ...
Oscar Organizers: "The Show Will Go On"
Oscars organizers have repeated their vow to hold the Academy Awards later this month irrespective of a war on Iraq - although the "tone" of the bash will change. Producer Gil Gates informed a Beverly Hills, California luncheon - which included nominees Nicole Kidman, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Sir Michael Caine and Nicolas Cage - that the ceremony will definitely go ahead in a fortnight's time. However, Gates also conceded that if America is at war with Iraq at the time, then the awards in the Kodak Theatre will be altered accordingly. He said, "If we are at war, the Oscar telecast will obviously reflect that reality. It will be reflected in areas that we can control as well as, no doubt, in the parts we can't control, such as your acceptance speeches. The show will go on and our purpose remains the same as it has for 75 years - to celebrate our art form and honor its most accomplished practioneers (sic)." Nominees Daniel Day-Lewis and Ed Harris agreed with Gates' sentiments. Day-Lewis, competing for Best Actor for his performance in Gangs Of New York, commented, "It would seem obscene if we were trouncing up a red carpet grinning and waving while all these people are dying somewhere in the world." The Hours supporting-actor Harris added, "You should still have it but the tone should change. The Oscars are not a political forum but a prayer for peace would be all right."
Queen Latifah: Oscars Will Provide War Relief
Rapper-turned-actress Queen Latifah insists the Oscars should go on if America embarks on a war with Iraq - because everybody will need a pleasant distraction. The New Jersey native, who has a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination for her role in the hit musical Chicago, believes the March 23 ceremony will provide some much needed light relief, if threats of a conflict are carried out. She says, "America is America and it takes precedence over everything. But at the same time, I know we as Americans don't want to sit here and cry all day. If there is something we could physically do to be involved, we would, otherwise we're going to be watching war on televisions. So maybe the Oscars might be the break that person needs to take their mind off the fact that their child is over there fighting."
