The Early Preview

This is an overview of the EP posted on Monday mornings before I start work on the play-by-play version. I type this on the fly while watching, it's intended to be a general overview. Don't hold me to the details because it's just not possible to type while watching and catch everything. If detailed accuracy matters to you, wait for the play-by-play version to be posted. If you're just looking for teasers, do not read further. The summary will include any major episode spoilers. The lengthy, detailed preview version will be posted here as usual, when I finish it.

Things pick up where they left off at the end of "The Price" last week with Connor's arrival in the lobby of the Hyperion. He aims a stake firing weapon at Angel and greets his father.

Connor fires a couple of stakes, hitting Angel but missing his heart. Groo throws an ax at Connor, misses. Connor pauses a beat, ponders the situation. Angel realizes who Connor is, calls his name. Connor fires again. Cordy throws Angel a sword to fight with as the others arm themselves. Connor and Angel fight as Angel tries to discuss things. Groo and Gunn try to intervene. Connor takes them out. Angel gets Connor on his back, puts his own weapon to his throat, pauses a moment, then extends his hand to help him up. Connor runs out of the hotel into the daylight. Angel tries to follow into the sun, Groo and Gunn pull him back and continue the pursuit.

Connor stands in the middle of the busy street a moment, leaps onto the back of a moving bus and disappears.

Cordelia tells Angel the fight he just had was the vision she had before. Gunn wonders if Angel is sure that was Connor. Angel is sure. Lorne thinks it's important to figure out why he came back. Fred gets the bus schedule information, gives it to Angel who heads out to follow up on it.

The others notice more electrical discharges in the lobby and realize the dimensional rift still exists. Groo suggests perhaps Cordy's new powers can close it. She tries. Nothing happens. Fred suggests someone might be able to help. Gunn says he already went to Wesley's, they can't go again. Lorne says he knows someone who might be able to take care of it.

Groo offers to stay behind to keep an eye on the rift while the others head out to help Angel. Cordelia stays with him. Fred realizes Gunn got help from Wes to save her from the slug problem. Gunn assures her it won't happen again.

Lilah arrives at Wesley's. He doesn't invite her in, she enters anyway. She notes no get well cards or flowers in the apartment. Wes assumes she's there to offer him a job. Lilah feigns concern for his situation, being left alone by those he trusted and worked with. Wes knows she's there to offer him a job, she wants his inside information on Angel Investigations. Lilah gives him a copy of Dante's Inferno. He tosses it aside. He's read it before. Lilah asks him if he remembers who in the center of Hell was judged the worst sinner. Wes answers, Judas. Lilah reminds him the worst spot in Hell is reserved for those who betray. She doesn't think he's too good to work for W&H. She leaves.

Connor continues riding the top of the bus for awhile before leaping off.

Gunn calls Angel and says Connor is leaving a trail, he's heading downtown. Angel doesn't figure he'll go where there's too many people. He wants Gunn to call when they lose the trail, he'll pick it up when the sun goes down.

Connor watches a girl under a bridge trying to sell some CD's to a guy. He leaps over the bridge and approaches for a better view, remaining hidden. The guy grabs the girl and tries to throw her into his car. Connor approaches. The guy suggests he move on. Connor says nothing. The guy cracks wise about his attire then whistles. Several of his friends emerge from where they'd been hiding. One of them knocks Connor out. As he goes in to finish him off, Connor jumps to his feet and takes them all out. As he starts to slash the throat of one of the guys, the girl tells him they have to get out of there, the cops will be coming. Connor starts to leave with her, heads back and cuts the guy's ear off for a souvenir.

At the hotel, Groo continues his watch in the lobby. Cordelia wonders if he doesn't get bored. She talks about Angel and his tales of back in the day and how they bore her to tears. Groo wonders why she talks about Angel all the time. She says it's because Angel has needed her the past few weeks and Groo does too. She kisses Groo. An electrical discharge knocks them apart and to the floor.

Angel, Gunn and Fred are at the site of the fight Connor had earlier. Gunn tells Angel about the ear incident. Fred is repulsed. Angel reminds her Connor was raised in a Hell dimension. He tells the others he'll continue searching by himself. He figures Connor is probably pretty confused.

The homeless girl leads Connor back to an abandoned building. She asks him where he comes from. He tells her. She thinks it's in Mexico. She wonders how he spent his time there. He says he hunted. She's not surprised.

They enter a room where she lights some candles and welcomes him to her home. He looks around the wrecked and cluttered place. She suggests he dress in something more appropriate as she throws him some clothes. She pulls some food out of her bag and tells him it's good he didn't kill the guy in the fight. She doesn't need trouble with the cops.

Connor picks up a spoon, starts to eat with it. She tells him it's not for eating, it's for her drugs which she gets from the guy Connor beat up. She tells him it's "medicine" that helps her when she's sad.

Fred and Gunn return to the hotel to find both Groo and Cordy unconscious on the floor.

The homeless girl asks Connor about himself, why he's in LA. He answers that he came to find his father. She says she came to get away from hers, she thinks parents should have to take a test for fitness before having kids. Connor figures they should just be killed. She kisses him, he kisses her back. She pulls away and tells him she'll be back.

At his apartment, Wes takes a moment from working on his computer to look through the book Lilah left. He studies an illustration a moment, then slams the book shut.

Connor wakes up suddenly, calls out for the homeless girl, gets no answer. He looks through the place, hears a noise and calls out for her. He finds her in the bathroom, dead from an overdose.

He turns to see Angel standing in the doorway. Angel wants to know if Connor used the drugs. Connor pulls away. Angel tells him they'll take care of it. Connor says it's too late. He walks back out into the living room and picks up a coat, smells it. Angel wants to know who he's tracking. He realizes it's the guy who gave the girl the drugs. They go back and forth a bit, Connor trying to get away, Angel not letting him. Angel tells him he doesn't understand how things work there. Connor tells him his name is Steven.

Cordy is explaining that she doesn't really know what happened that put her and Groo on the floor. Fred returns with a book, saying she found a picture of the thing Connor killed in the lobby, they usually have a mate. Fred wants to call Wes for help. Gunn tells her no. Cordy doesn't figure Angel would like it. Groo sarcastically notes they always have to do what Angel would want.

Lorne returns with help to close the rift.

Angel accepts Connor prefers to be called Steven. He asks for a chance to talk, he wants to know everything about where Connor has been, what's happened, what things were like for him. He tells him he tried to come after him, he tried to get him back but he couldn't find a way in. Connor says he found a way out. Angel says he shouldn't have quit, he shouldn't have given up but what's important is that Connor is back now and he wants to know all about him. He's sure Connor has questions too. Connor says he has none, his father told him everything.

Angel tells him Holtz isn't his father. Connor punches him and tells him Holtz told him everything about Angel, that he's a thing that kills and drinks blood. Angel wonders what Connor knows about vampires. Connor lists all the ways they can be killed. He also knows they have a "face for killing". He punches Angel, taunting him to show his demon face. Angel morphs into vamp face and tells him it's part of who he is, he hopes Connor can accept that some day.

The one eared drug pusher and his friends arrive, ready to finish what they started earlier with Connor. They ask for the homeless girl. Angel tells them she's dead. He says there's no need for violence. He tries to reason with the guy who isn't interested. He wants his coat back. Angel tells Connor to give it to him. One of the guys announces the cops have arrived.

At the hotel, Lorne's friend explains the occurrence in the lobby isn't a portal, there are none to Quor-toth, for good reason. She says something punched its way through, something she doesn't want to meet. She performs a ritual that closes the rift. Cordy asks if she could tell if anything else came through. The woman isn't interested in sticking around to find out.

Angel and Connor take on the gang as the cops arrive. Angel tells him they have to go. Connor says he has to go. The cops shoot the place up as the guys inside fire back. Connor and Angel hit the floor as the bullets fly. Angel sends Connor to run out the window as a cop enters and fires his shotgun. Angel gets between Connor and the gun, taking the load to his back. It knocks him to the floor. Connor stops. Angel gets back up and pushes him out the window as they take off together.

They stop after a while. Angel tells Connor he can come back to the hotel. Connor says he has to go. Angel reminds him he's not alone. Connor says he knows and takes off.

Connor heads down an alley and meets up with Holtz, greeting him with, "Hi, dad."

There's no fear when I'm in my room
It's so clear and I know just what I want to do
All day bedroom dancing
To you I wanna say
Your my thing.
